2024年度 England Summer Camp Program(N.R.)

2024年8月1日(木)から13日(火)にかけて実施されたイングランド・サマーキャンププログラムには、中学1年生から3年生までの生徒18名が参加し、充実した学びと体験を得ることができました。このプログラムの目的は、イギリス文化に直接触れ、世界中から集まった同年代の仲間と共に言語や文化を学ぶことです。

参加者が訪れた「クライスト・ホスピタル・スクール」は1552年にエドワード6世の治世下で創立され、470年以上の歴史を誇ります。この学校は、伝統と歴史に彩られた名門校として知られています。参加者たちは学校の敷地内にある寮に滞在し、午前中には充実した語学授業に、午後には多彩なアクティビティに参加しました。中でも、ロンドンやその周辺地域への複数回の終日遠足は特に印象深く、参加者たちは名所を訪れながらイギリス文化遺産への理解を深めました。

このプログラムは、文化探究、語学学習、そして国際交流を見事に融合させ、参加者にとって忘れられない思い出と貴重な経験をもたらしました。

■中学3年生の感想

2週間のイギリス留学プログラムに参加した私の経験について紹介します。

[ 留学で学んだこと]

・『授業』

学校では、クラスの子と英語を使いながら関わり、議論や話し合いを通して自分の考えを深めるという授業形態で、「学ぶことは楽しいんだ」と感じることができました。

・『英語で伝える』

今回のプログラムでは世界中の国から中高生が集まり、一緒に授業を受けるというものでした。イタリア語、トルコ語、中国語とそれぞれ母国語が違う中で、お互いに「英語」を使ってコミュニケーションをとりました。最初は、自分の伝えたいことを英語で表現するのが難しかったです。しかし、クラスメイトとコミュニケーションをとってみて、文法や単語が間違っていても、英語を使ってみることはとても大切なことだと気がつきました。

・『文化を学び、体験すること』

大英博物館、バッキンガム宮殿、ウェストミンスター宮殿など有名な場所を見学しました。伝統的なものがたくさんありました。例えば、建築様式、電車やバスなどの公共交通機関、そして、食べ物などです。イギリスで過ごすことで、自分の目でイギリス文化を多く学ぶことができました。

[ 驚いたこと]

サマーキャンプで出会った他国からの参加者達は、とてもフレンドリーで優しく、すぐに友達を作っていました。彼らは新しいサマーキャンプの参加者が来ると積極的に話しかけて、一緒に過ごしていました。食事の時も一緒にいて、会話を楽しんでしました。私にも声をかけてくれたので、サマーキャンプの参加者たちと、たくさん話しをして楽しく過ごすことができました。

今回のサマーキャンプでは、たくさんのことを経験しました。新しいことをするのは大変だったけれど、挑戦することで、自分も成長でき、毎日が楽しくなると実感しました。学ぶチャンスを得るためにも、これからたくさん「挑戦」をしてみようと思いました。

From August 1st to August 13th, the 2024 England Summer Camp Program offered an enriching experience for 18 junior high school students, ranging from 1st to 3rd year. The program aimed to immerse students in British culture while providing opportunities to study language and culture alongside peers from around the world.

Participants stayed in the dormitory at Christ’s Hospital School, a picturesque and historic institution with a history of over 470 years, dating back to its founding in 1552. It was established during the reign of King Edward VI.

Each morning, students attended engaging language classes, and afternoons were filled with exciting activities. Highlights included several full-day excursions to London and nearby areas, where students explored iconic landmarks and deepened their appreciation of British heritage.

The program successfully combined cultural exploration, language learning, and international exchange, leaving students with lasting memories and valuable experiences.

[What I learned in England]

-classes in the school

The classes were different from Japanese school’s classes. In the British school, we did many things in the classes. For example, we th about environmental problems with other students, we did Marshmallow Challenge, and debated about interesting topics, like which pets is better, cats or dogs. By doing these things, I could think that “Learning is fun”.

-Using English

In this study program, a lot of students around the world came to England and took the classes together with us. They all spoke different languages, Italian, Turkish, and Chinese, but we communicated by using English. At first, it was difficult to say what I wanted to say in English. But I tried communicating with my classmates, so I noticed that to try using English is very important even if the grammar and words are wrong.

-feeling other countries’ culture

I visited some famous places such as the British Museum, Buckingham Palace, and The Palace of Westminster. There are a lot of traditional things. For example, the building’s architecture, public transport, and foods. By seeing with my own eyes, I could learn about a lot of parts of British culture when I was spending time in the U.K.

[what I was surprised about]

In the school in England, every student had met each other for the first time. But they were very friendly and kind so they made friends so easy. When new students came to the school, they always talked to the new students and spent time together. At meal times, they ate together and enjoyed talking. They talked to me when I went to the classroom for the first time, so I talked with them a lot and enjoyed spending time together.

I experienced a lot in England. It was hard to try new things, but I realized that if we try a lot, we can improve ourselves and enjoy every day. There are many chances to learn things that we can’t experience in Japan, so I could think I should try a lot.
